My today’s recipe is Ghugni – a popular bengali snack recipe, prepared from dried yellow peas. It is very tasty and easy to prepare at home.
Cooking time – 45 mins. Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Dried yellow peas – 2 cups. (soaked overnight in water)
2.Potato – 1 (cut into 1 inch square)
3.Onion – 1 (chopped)
4.Ginger paste – 1/2 tspoon.
5.Garlic paste – 1/2 tspoon.
6.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
7.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tspoon.
8.Red chilli pwd – 1 tspoon.
9.Cumin pwd – 1 tspoon.
10.Turmeric pwd – 1 tspoon.
11.Sugar – 1/2 tspoon.
12.Garam masala pwd – 1/2 tspoon.
13.Oil – 50 gms.
14.Salt to taste.
For garnishing –
Green chilli – 2 (finely chopped)
Coriander leaves – 2 tabspoon (chopped)
Lemon slice – 4
Method –
1.Boil the soaked peas with 1/2 tabspoon of salt until they are soft but firm in shape. (you can use pressure cooker). Drain out the excess water and keep aside.
2.Wash the potato pieces and fry till light brown, remove them and keep aside.
3.Add cumin seeds in the same oil, when it splutters add onion and fry till light brown.
4.Add tomato pieces, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric-cumin-chilli pwd, sugar with 1/4 cup of water and saute till oil separate.
5.Add boiled peas and potato pieces with 1/2 cup of water and saute for 3-4 mins.
6.Add 2 cups of water and salt, let it bring to boil. Simmer for 7-8 mins (stirring occasionally).
7.Take out from the flame.Add garam masala pwd, mix well.Cover the pan and give 10 mins standing time.
Garnish with green chilli, coriander leaves and lemon slices.Serve as a snack or side dish.
