Vegetarian Side Dish – Cauliflower With Poppy Seeds Paste/ Bengali Posto – Phulkopi.

Today I am sharing with you a vegetarian side dish recipe made with Cauliflower and Poppy Seeds. It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients. It is a simple dish, non spicy and very tasty to eat.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4.

Ingredients –

  1. Cauliflower – 1 (cut into Florets)
  2. Poppy seeds – 50 grams.
  3. Nigella seeds (Kalonji) – 1/2 tsp.
  4. Green chilly – 2
  5. Slit green chilly – 4
  6. Salt to taste.
  7. Turmeric powder – a pinch.
  8. Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
  9. Ghee – 1 tbsp.
  10. Oil – 1/4 cup.

Method:

Take warm water in a large bowl and immerse the Florets with 1 tbsp.of salt for 10 minutes. Drain well and keep aside. Using water grind poppy seeds and 2 green chilly into a paste,keep aside. Marinate the Cauliflower Florets with 1 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.

Heat oil in a frying pan, add the Florets and and fry until light brown. Take out from oil,keep aside. Add kalonji and ghee in the remaining oil and stir fry for 1 minute. Add the poppy seeds paste, saute for 2 to 3 minutes with stirring continuously. Add 11/2 to 2 cups of water, mix well and let it bring to boil. Add the Florets,salt,sugar and slit green chilly. Keep cooking till all the water evaporates.Remove pan from the heat,cover and give 10 minutes standing time.Delicious Cauliflower Curry is ready. Serve as a side dish with Rice/Roti/Chapathi.
