Sweet Snacks–Tilkut (Sesame Seeds With Peanut)

Today I am posting Tilkut recipe. Tilkut is a traditional Indian sweet made on Makar Sankranti. It is very delicious,made with Sesame seeds and Jaggery/sugar. In this recipe I have added roasted peanuts. It is a simple recipe,takes few minutes to prepare and can be stored for few days.

Cooking time – 20 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

Sesame seeds – 1 cup.

Peanuts (roasted) – 1/2 cup.

Jaggery (crushed) – 1 cup.

Instructions –

Take the sesame seeds in a flat tray and pick out small stones (impurities). Place a frying pan on slow heat, add the sesame seeds. Dry roast the seed still they are light brown in color. Remove pan from the heat, Transfer the roasted sesame seeds into a bowl. Grease a flat tray with ghee/white oil, keep aside.

Take jaggery in a pan, add 1 cup of water. Place the pan on slow heat. Stir continuously till all the water evaporates from the jaggery (the jaggery becomes like gum). Add roasted sesame seeds and peanuts. Keep mixing fast, otherwise the jaggery will get crystallized. Pour the mixture quickly in the greased tray and level it with the back of a ladle. With a knife make cuts on it. Allow it to harden. Break into pieces and store in a air tight jar. You can store it in refrigerator (in sealed packet) for long days.

Delicious sweet snacks Tilkut is ready. Enjoy.
