My Today’s Recipe is Shol Macher Tel Jhol. Shol Fish / Snakehead murrel is a very popular Fish in India and Bangladesh.We make many recipes of Shol Fish in Kolkata.But, Today I decided to make a spicy Gravy of Shol Fish.The Gravy is very rich in taste and texture.A perfect dish for any occasion, Lunch, Dinner. Generally, Its a traditional dish of Bengal, But today I am going to show you an easy way to make this recipe.
So without further ado, Lets see the ingredients and the process to make Shol Macher Tel Jhol.
Time – 40 minutes Serves – 4
Ingredients:
- Shol Fish – 4 Pcs
- Mustard Oil – 1/2 cup
- Bay Leaves – 2 pcs
- Tomato – 1 (Chopped)
- Onion – 1 (Chopped)
- Ginger – 1/2 tsp (Chopped)
- Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilly Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Coriander Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Slit Green Chilly – 4
- Salt to taste
Process:-
- Wash the fish with luke warm water.Marinate with 1 tsp of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.Keep aside.
- Grind Tomato and Onion to a paste.To this add ginger,chilly,Turmeric,cumin and Coriander Powder. Keep the masala mix aside.
- Heat oil in a frying pan.Fry the fish pieces very lightly on both sides.Take out from the oil, and keep on a kitchen tissue to soak excess oil.
- Add Bay leaves in the remaining oil.Stir fry for 30 secs.Add the masala mix and 1/2 cup of water.Saute on slow flame till oil separates.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring to boil.Add the fried fish,salt and slit green chills.Simmer for 7 to 8 minutes.When the gravy starts thickening , remove pan from the heat, cover and give 10 minutes standing time.
Shol Macher Tel Jhol is ready to serve now. Serve with hot rice and I am sure your family and guests will enjoy this dish a lot.
