Today we are going to make a delicious side dish made with raw banana. It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very popular all over Bengal. The dish is very tasty and easy to prepare.
Cooking time – 50 minutes Serve – 4
Ingredients – For Kofta
1.Raw banana – 4.
2.Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp.
3.Garlic paste – 1/2 tsp.
4.Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
5.Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp.
6.Chilly powder – 1/4 tsp.
7.Egg – 1 (beaten)
8.Besan (gram flour) – 2 tbsp.
9.Sugar – 1/4 tsp.
10.Salt – 1/3 tsp.
11.Oil for deep frying the koftas.
Ingredients – For gravy
1.Onion – 1 (chopped)
2.Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp.
3.Garlic paste – 1/2 tsp.
4.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
5.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
6.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
7.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
8.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
9.Sugar – 1/2 tsp. & Salt to taste.
10.Ghee – 1 tsp. & Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
Method –
1.Boil the raw banana (with skin) and drain well. Peel the banana and put in a large bowl. Mash the banana well. Add all the ingredients (for kofta) except oil. Mix well and make a thick paste. If needed add extra besan. Heat oil in a frying pan, when hot reduce the heat. Make balls of the paste and drop into the oil.Fry on slow flame till the balls turn golden brown. Fry 3 to 4 balls at a time. Remove the fried balls from oil, keep aside.
2.Add cumin seeds in the remaining oil. When the cumin looks brown add onion. Fry the onion till golden brown. Add tomato and ginger-garlic paste, saute for 2 minutes. Add turmeric, chilly, cumin, sugar and 1/2 cup of water, saute till oil separates and raw smell of the masala goes off. Add 2 cups of water and salt, let it bring to boil. Add the fried koftas, cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove pan from heat, add ghee and garam masala powder, cover the pan and give 10 minutes standing time. Raw banana kofta curry is ready to serve. Garnish with raisins/green chilly and serve with rice/pulao/roti.
