Today I am posting a delicious fish gravy recipe made with Pabda mach. It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very popular in West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is a simple dish, very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients. Pabda fish gravy is very tasty to eat and goes well with white Rice.
Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Pabda fish – 4 nos. (cleaned and washed)
2.Tomato (small) – 1 (chopped)
3.Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp.
4.Ginger paste – 1/4 tsp.
5.Garlic paste – 1/4 tsp.
6.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
7.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
8.Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.
9.Salt to taste.
10.Mustard oil – 6 tbsp.
Slit green chilly and chopped coriander leaves for decoration.
Instruction –
1.Marinate the fish with 1/4 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use. Grind tomato to a paste. To this add ginger,garlic,turmeric,chilly,coriander and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well. keep the masala mix aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan, when hot reduce the heat. Fry the fish lightly on both sides. Take out from oil, keep aside.Fry one fish at a time.
3.Add cumin seeds in the remaining oil. When the cumin looks brown add the masala mix and saute till oil separates. Add 1+1/2 to 2 cups of water and little salt, let it bring to boil. Add the fried fish and stir slowly. Cook for 4 to 6 minutes. When the gravy starts thickening remove pan from the heat. Cover and give 5 minutes standing time.
Delicious Pabda Fish gravy is ready,garnish with slit green chilly and coriander leaves and serve with white Rice.
