Today we are making a famous Bengali fish curry dish – Sorshe Pabda. It is a gravy based dish made with mustard seeds paste. It is a traditional Bengali fish curry dish and very tasty. It is very simple to prepare and requires a few ingredients.

Ingredients –
1.Pabda Fish – 2
2.Mustard seeds – 2 tbsp.
3.Green chilly – 2
4.Nigella seeds (kalonji)- 1/4 tsp.
5.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
6.Salt to taste.
7.Oil – 4 tbsp.
8.Chopped coriander leaves – 1 tbsp.
9.Slit green chilly – 2 (for garnishing)
Method –
1.Clean and wash the fish, marinate with 1/2 tsp of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder. Keep them aside until use. Adding 1/2 cup of water and 1/4 tsp.of salt grind mustard seeds and green chilly into a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan. When hot reduce the heat. Fry the fish gently till light brown on both sides. Fry 1 piece of fish at a time. Keep the fried fish in a bowl.
3.Add kalonji in the remaining oil, stir fry for few seconds. Add mustard seeds paste and turmeric powder, saute for 2-3 minutes. Add 1 cup of water and little salt,let it bring to boil. Add fried fish and simmer for 7-8 minutes or till the gravy thickens.
Remove pan from heat.Add coriander leaves,mix slowly and cover the pan.Give 10 minutes standing time. Garnish with green chilly and serve with hot steamed rice.
