Today I am posting a delicious fish gravy recipe made with small fish. The recipe is very simple but very tasty to eat. It is a traditional Bengali recipe,very quick and easy to prepare. It is a less oil recipe, no need to fry the fish and you need only 2 tbsp. of oil to make this beautiful dish. To this recipe you can use any types of tiny fish like mourala, puti, shrimp, chanda etc. You can make the dish in pressure cooker also (need only 5 to 6 minutes.)
Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4
Ingredients
- Fish – 250 grams.
- Potato – 1 (peeled and cut into very small cubes)
- Tomato – 1 (chopped)
- Onion – 1(chopped)
- Garlic cloves – 2
- Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Slit green chilly – 4
- Chopped coriander leaves – 4 tbsp.
- Salt to taste.
- Oil – 2 tbsp.
- Lemon juice – 2 tbsp.
Instructions –
Clean and wash the fish and pat dry. Grind onion,ginger,garlic and tomato into a paste. Marinate the fish with the paste, 1 tsp.of salt, turmeric-chilly-coriander powders and lemon juice. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
Put the marinated fish in a pan. To this add potato cubes, green chilly,coriander leaves,little salt,oil and 3 cups of water. Mix well. Cover the pan well and place on high heat. Allow it to boil, then reduce the heat.Cook on slow flame for 7 to 8 minutes. When the gravy starts thickening,remove pan from the heat and give 10 minutes standing time.
Delicious small fish gravy is ready, serve with steamed rice.
