Today I am posting a sweet recipe made with flattened rice. It is a traditional Bengali dessert recipe and very quick and easy to prepare. It is a mouth watering dish made with flatten rice (chira) and coconut jaggery stuffing. The balls made with chire and coconut stuffing is called – “Puli”.This type of Pulis are really soft and yummy.
Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4
Ingredients
- Full cream Milk = 1 lit.
- Flatten Rice or Chira = 100 gm.
- Palm Date Jaggery = 1/2 cup
- Shredded Coconut = 1 cup
- Sugar = 1/2 cup
- Cardamom Powder = 1/2 tsp
- Cashew nuts/Raisin = a handfull
Method
- Mix shredded coconut and jaggery in a pan and mix on a slow flame still the mixture becomes sticky.Remove from heat and transfer to another bowl.Keep aside.
- Soak Chira and in water for 10 minutes.Keep them in strainer and press well to drain out the excess water. Then mash it well.
- In a mixing bowl take the mashed chira and cornflour and knead the mixture and make a dough.Divide the dough into small balls.
- Take a ball and flatten on palm.Fill little coconut mixture in it. Cover from all the sides.Make sure filling does not come out from the ball.
- Repeat for the remaining balls and keep them aside.
- In a heavy bottomed pan boil the milk.Reduce the flame and cook for 5-6 minutes.After 4-5 minutes add sugar.On a slow flame keep stirring till the sugar dissolves and milk thickens.
- Add the Chira balls.Stir gently. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Remove pan from heat.Add cardamom powder,Cashews and raisins.Mix slowly.Allow to cool in room temperature.
Chirer Puli pitha is ready to serve.Serve it as a dessert.
