Today I am posting a simple snacks recipe made with chana dal – it is Chana Dal Kabab. It is very quick and easy to make and delicious also. It is a budget friendly recipe, you can make any time at home. This tasty dish can be served as an appetizer or as a tea time snacks. For veg.version you can use a pinch of asafoetida (hing) and 1 tbsp.of corn flour (instead of onion,garlic and egg).
Cooking time – 40 minutes, Serve – 4
Ingredients –
- Dal – 300 grams
- Onion (large) – 1(finely chopped)
- Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp.
- Garlic paste – 1/2 tsp.
- Potato (boiled) – 1
- Egg (beaten) – 1
- Salt to test.
- Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
- Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Cumin powder – 1/4 tsp.
- Turmeric powder – a pinch.
- Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Kasoori methi leaves (crushed) – 2 tbsp.(Optional)
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp.
- Oil for deep frying.
Instructions –
Heat 1 tbsp.of oil in a frying pan,add onion and fry till brown. Take out from the pan,keep aside.
Mash the boiled potato.Pressure the chana dal until soft (by adding water and 1 tsp.of salt). Transfer to a strainer. Take the dal in a mixing bowl. To this add the boiled mashed potato,fried onion and all the ingredients (except oil). Mix all the ingredients properly (do not add water). Cover the bowl,allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
Heat enough oil in a frying pan. when it is hot,reduce the heat.Take a small portions of the mixture,flatten it to give a shape of kabab and slowly drop into the hot oil.Fry it until golden brown on both sides. Increase the heat,take out the fried kabab from the pan and keep on paper towel. Fry 3 to 4 kababs at a time. Again reduce the heat and start the next batch.
Delicious Chana Dal Kabab is ready, serve hot with ketchup/sauce/salads.
