Today I am posting a delicious Bengali dish——-Gathi Kochu with shrimps recipe. It is a traditional recipe, very simple to prepare. It can be served with rice/roti /parathas.
Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Kochu – 500 grams (peeled and cut into pieces)
2.Potato – 250 grams (peeled and cut into cubes)
3.Shrimps —250 grams.
4.Tomato – 1
5.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
6.Bay leaves – 2
7.Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp.
8.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
9.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
10.Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
11.Salt to taste.
12.Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
13.Ghee – 1 tsp.
14. Garam masala powder – 1//2 tsp.
15.Oil – 1/4 cup.
Instructions-
Boil the kochu pieces with water for 3 to 4 minutes and drain. Wash the pieces with normal water and keep in a colander. Puree the tomato, keep aside. Clean and wash the shrimps and marinate with 1/4 tsp.of salt. Heat oil in a frying pan, saute the srimps for 2 minutes. Take out the shrimps from oil, keep aside.
Add cumin seeds in the remaining oil, When the cumin looks brown add bay leaves, kochu and potato pieces. Mix 1/2 tsp of salt. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes on medium heat. Add Add ginger paste, all the masala powders (chilly, cumin, turmeric) and 1/2 cup of water. Saute till oil separates. Add shrimps, tomato puree, salt, sugar and water. Mix well. Cover the pan and cook till the vegetables are soft. When the gravy starts thickening remove pan from the heat. Mix ghee and garam masala powders. Cover the pan, give 10 minutes standing time.
Delicious Bengali side dish is ready to serve.
