Today I am posting a delicious side dish recipe made with Katwa Danta.It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very simple to prepare. It is a non spicy dish, very healthy and you can add many vegetables to this dish. It can be served as a side dish with rice/roti.
Cooking time – 40 minutes Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Danta – 300 grams.(peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces)
2.Potato – 200 grams (peeled and cut into cubes)
3.Pumpkin – 200 grams (peeled and cut into cubes)
4.Tomato (large) – 1
5.Green chilly – 4
6. Slit green chilly – 4.
7.Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
8.Hing – 1/4 tsp (OPTIONAL)
9. Chana dal – 100 grams..
10.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
11.Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.
12.Dry red chilly – 2.
13.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
14.Bay leaves – 2.
15.Salt to taste.
16.Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
17. Oil as required.
18.Wheat flour – 1 tbsp.
Instructions –
Grind tomato,4 green chilly into a paste. To this add coriander and turmeric powder. Keep the masala mix aside.
Soak the dal for 3 hours and grind to a paste.To this add salt and little turmeric powder. Beat it well. Heat oil in a frying pan. Prepare small balls with the dal paste and fry till brown on both sides. Take out the fried balls from the oil,keep aside.
Add red chilly and cumin seeds in the remaining oil.When the cumin looks brown add hing and bay leaves. Fry for few seconds. Add the vegetables and salt,mix well. Cover the pan and cook for 5 to 6 minutes, Stir in between. Add the masala mix and sugar. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes. Add 3 to 4 cups of water.Cover and cook till the vegetables are soft.Add the fried balls and slit green chilly. Cover and cook for 3 minutes. Dissolve wheat flour in 1/2 cup of water and add to the pan. Stir well and cook for 2 minutes.
Remove pan from the heat,cover and give 10 minutes standing time. Tasty and healthy curry is ready,serve hot.
