Today I am sharing with you a delicious fish gravy recipe made with a rare fish – Nadosh mach. It is a popular fish in Bengal and Bangladesh. In East Bengal (now Bangladesh) the fish is known as ‘Meni Mach’. I have made a light gravy with this fish. It is a traditional Bengali recipe, non spicy and very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients.
Cooking time – 25 minutes. Serve – 4.
Ingredients –
- Fish – 4 (cleaned and washed)
- Tomato (large) –1(chopped)
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Green chilly – 4.
- Slit green chilly – 4.
- Salt to taste.
- Mustard oil – 1/2 cup.
- Nigella seeds (kalojeera) – 1/4 tsp.
Method –
1.Marinate the fish with 1/4 tsp. of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use. Grind tomato and 4 green chilly into a smooth paste.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan. When hot reduce the heat. Fry the fish in medium heat till light brown on both sides. Take out them from the oil,keep aside.
3.Add Kalojeera in the remaining oil, fry for 30 seconds. Add the tomato paste and turmeric powder. Saute for 1 minute. Add 1 +1/2 cups of water,let it bring to boil. Add the fried fish,salt and slit green chilly. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes. When the gravy starts thickening,remove pan from the heat. Cover and give 5 minutes standing time
Delicious Nadosh Fish Gravy is ready, serve with plain white Rice/ Jeera Rice.
